Why Dimensions Matter

Major parcel carriers use dimensional weight when a package is large compared with its actual weight. FedEx explains that charges may be based on actual weight or dimensional weight, whichever is greater. UPS also notes that dimensional weight can apply when a package is large relative to its weight.
